Fire Tongs

Fire tongs - for holding the shoe or steel whilst forging or shaping.

The tongs help the farrier get the shoe into and out of the hot forge and also hold the shoe (either hot of cold) when shaping on the anvil or stall jack.

Suitable for a variety of sections of steel - usually a farrier will have a selection of different sizes to snugly fit the section of metal they commonly work with.

Q. Which size of tongs do I need?

A. Depends on what type of shoes you commonly shape. As a general rough guide, 1/4" tongs would hold some of the lighter steel racing shoes, 3/8" tongs would hold many sport horse shoes and 1/2" would be handy if you were shoeing heavy draft horses
